App Critique 6: Givted

  • Is the design appropriate for the target audience? Who is the target audience?
    • The target audience is essentially anyone who is looking for gifts for someone else or themselves.  I’d guess the largest demo is 25-35.  From a design perspective, I think it’s done a very poor job.  It looks almost like somewhere between the prototype version and a functional app.  Not very intuitive and no personality to it.
  • Does the content, organization, and navigation make sense for a mobile or touch context?
    • Content:
      • There really is no content, not very welcoming or functional.
    • Organization:
      • The app isn’t very well organized.
        • There is an icon bar at the bottom but none of them really let you do anything different.  I think they just popped this app up for the heck of it.
        • I think it may just be supplemential to the site so people can take photos of ideas for gifts, which I like, but its not the optimal version of an app for the business model.
    • Navigation:
      • There is no navigating.  There is a ? mark button you can click to see which button does what, but none of them are functional.
  • What is working well? What could be improved and how would you improve it?
    • I like that you can take photos of gift ideas and create a registry, but I doubt anyone is going to download and use this app for it.
    • You should be able to integrate your Facebook friends and contact lists to find out who needs gifts and when, who your mutual friends are, and an option to begin a gift for someone and invite people to join that gift.
  • Any additional thoughts about the navigation, user flow, visual design?
    • It’s all wrong.
